NICEVILLE — Northwest Florida State College has earned the Florida Collegiate Purple Star Campus designation.
According to a school press release, the Florida Department of Education has recognized the college for its commitment to supporting active-duty military members, veterans and their families. The college will hold the designation for three academic calendar years.
The Collegiate Purple Star Campus designation was signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis in June 2023. It recognizes Florida institutions that strive to assist military-connected students in college.

“The Collegiate Purple Star Campus Designation is a reflection of our deep-rooted commitment at Northwest Florida State College to those men and women who serve and have served our nation,” NWFSC President Mel Ponder said in the release. “We’re extremely proud to be recognized as a Purple Star Campus and remain fully committed to serving those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. It is indeed an honor.”
Earlier this year, NWFSC also was named a Gold-Level Military Friendly School following an independent evaluation of more than 1,800 colleges and universities across the United States.
