JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Louisiana Tech softball dropped its second game of the series to Jacksonville State, falling 4-2 to the Gamecocks on Saturday afternoon at Jana McGinnis Field. The loss moves LA Tech to 17-13 (3-5 Conference USA).

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs outhit Jax State 7-4. Emma Elrod recorded a leadoff single, but starter Laney Johnson did not allow another hit until Jax State broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Johson (4-1) took her first loss of the season after allowing three runs on three hits across 5.0 innings. Bryannah Campos pitched 1.0 inning and allowed one run and one hit.

Alannah Rogers and Jina Baffuto registered two hits apiece for LA Tech, while Reagan Marchant, Elena Heng and Bradi Gallaway collected one hit each. Marchant had one RBI on a solo home run, while Aleah Brooks drove in Tech’s second run on a sacrifice fly.

The game remained scoreless through the first five innings until Marchant led off the sixth with a solo home run to left, giving LA Tech a 1-0 lead. Rogers followed with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A Baffuto sacrifice bunt moved Rogers to third, and Brooks brought her home with a sacrifice fly to right to put Tech on top 2-0.Â

Jax State answered in a big way in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs on three hits, highlighted by a two-run home run and a bases clearing double. The Gamecocks started the inning with a walk, single and a double which cleared the bases to tie the game. After a pitching change, Amber Reed hit a two-run homer to right to make it 4-2.

Heng singled to start the seventh, but the Bulldogs went down on three consecutive flyouts as Jax State secured the victory. Â
