LU took the lead midway through period two with Jake Southgate scoring from the top of the faceoff circle on a feed from Ethan Elias. Lindenwood would make it three unanswered four minutes later with another Morneau power play conversion, this time with assists coming from Nolan Seed and Jacob Fletcher.
However, the RedHawks would score twice the final two minutes of the second period, including a Ryan Smith goal of a faceoff in the LU defensive zone with 15 seconds remaining, to tie the score heading into the final intermission.
Lindenwood would regain the lead 7:22 into the third period with their third successful power play of the night, with Jacob Fletcher scoring on a feed from Jake Southgate. Nolan Seed also assisted on the play.Â
LU retained the lead with less than four minutes remaining, but a Maximilion Helgeson goal at the 16:22 mark tied the game and forced overtime. Less than a minute into the extra period, Ilia Morozov took control of the puck at the center line and powered his way to the front of the net before scoring on a backhander to win the game.
The play underwent a lengthy review for potential offsides but was ultimately upheld.
