JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Friday was Pucks and Paws Night for the Jacksonville Icemen, who faced the visiting Atlanta Gladiators in the second of a three-game series between the two teams. In the second Pucks and Paws Night this season in Jacksonville, the Icemen barked their way to a 4-1 victory over the Gladiators, for their second win of the series, having shut out the Gladiators on Wednesday.
Jacksonville got on the board first with a goal from Adam McMaster at the 8:10 mark of the first period, for his first of the night. Prior to this, Jaden Condotta and Ryley Appelt would drop the gloves to spur their teams on. After a scoreless second period, McMaster scored his second of the night at 8:10 of the third period on a power play, for his third consecutive goal against the Gladiators in this series. Less than a minute later, Jacksonville’s Craig Martin made it a 3-0 game, much to the delight of the crowd. Topias Leinonen‘s shutout bid came to an end when Atlanta’s Ryan Conroy scored a power play goal at the 11:53 mark, making it a 3-1 game. With Atlanta’s Ethan Haider pulled from the net for the extra attacker, an empty net goal by Will Hillman with 30 seconds left in the game didn’t sit well with some of the Atlanta players. A small brawl broke out, leading to four game misconducts and a penalty against Atlanta.
The two teams meet again Saturday night in Atlanta, before Jacksonville returns home Sunday evening to face the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, and Atlanta heads to Savannah to face the Ghost Pirates.
