The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said two men believed to be acquaintances were shot in the breezeway of building 10 at Gregory Cove Apartments.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One man is dead and another is recovering after an early Saturday morning shooting at a Jacksonville apartment complex, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO Sgt. Steve Rudlaff said officers responded to the Gregory Cove Apartments off Edenfield Road around 1:40 a.m. in reference to a report of gunfire.
While on the way, Rudlaff said the call was upgraded to a person shot.
When officers arrived, one man around 30-35 years old, was found shot at least once near the parking lot, Rudlaff said. He was then reportedly taken to Memorial Hospital, where he died.
Around the same time, Rudlaff said another man around 35-40 years old, arrived at the HCA Emergency Room on Merrill Road with a gunshot wound to his leg.
According to detectives, both men, believed to be acquaintances, were together when the shooting happened in the breezeway of building 10 at the apartment complex.
Rudlaff told First Coast News it’s “not uncommon for this area to hear gunshots during the night, so a lot of people did not call the sheriff’s office when this took place.” He added that the man who was killed in the shooting lived at the apartment complex, while the other was a guest.
JSO said it currently does not have any suspect information to release.
