The remodel of the OCPS Orlando Gifted Academy began nearly one year ago, and the OGA project is now at 60% complete. The $56.2 million makeover of the 1121 N. Fern Creek Ave. campus includes a new multistory 100,000-square-foot building to provide improved facilities for approximately 800 students.
The building is the former Fern Creek Elementary School in the Colonialtown North neighborhood.
A 60% Design Community Meeting with School Board Member Stephanie Vanos, District 6, will be at the Gifted Academy’s temporary home on the Orange Technical College Winter Park campus on Tuesday, April 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. at 901 Webster Ave. in Winter Park.
OGA serves students in grades two through eight and “was established by Orange County Public Schools in 2018 to meet the needs of intellectually gifted students throughout Orange County,” according to the OGA website. “It is the only public stand-alone magnet school for students identified as gifted in the Central Florida area. [OGA] provides … a rigorous and challenging curriculum.”
The current enrollment of 460 “work individually and collaboratively with peers by developing real-world problems and applicable projects. Students learn the skills necessary to defend their thoughts and ideas while communicating in a positive and respectful manner. OGA provides an environment for students to express their creativity while engaging in independent learning activities based on their interests. Students also have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of content through research and investigating open-ended tasks.”

The Orlando Gifted Academy’s remodel will be updated on April 14 by OCPS School Board member Stephanie Vanos (OCPS)
