According to police, the motorcycle left the road and crashed into a tree.

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — Pinellas Park police are investigating after a motorcyclist crashed into a tree and is now in critical condition.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Pinellas Park officers said, in the area of Belcher Road, south of 75th Street North.

According to police, when they arrived, they found a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle that had left the road and struck a tree in the median.

Officers added that a preliminary investigation indicates he was traveling southbound on Belcher Road, left the roadway for an unknown reason, and crashed.

The man riding the motorcycle, from St. Petersburg, was found in critical condition from his injuries and was taken to a local hospital, police said.

Officers say the preliminary investigation indicates that speed and impairment are being considered contributing factors. No other vehicles were involved.

The crash remains under investigation by the Traffic Homicide Unit of Pinellas Park police. Officers added that there are no indications of suspicious circumstances.
