MIAMI, Okla. — Miami residents could see better fiber services in the near future.

The Miami Special Utility Authority recently approved contracts for materials and construction of a new high speed fiber optics system. The city currently has limited options for fiber services and residents have been asking for years for the city to offer faster, higher capacity and more reliable fiber.

Construction will cost in total around $3.6 million, with the entire project expected to cost an estimated $11 million. The city says the hope is begin offering services to MSUA residential, commercial and industrial customers by the end of this year.

“High speed, high-capacity fiber optic services are a major driving force in economic vitality and keeping Miami competitive. This is a very important new enterprise,” said City Manager Tyler Cline in a statement.
