Alvaro Folgueiras on how the game-winning shot happened
Folgueiras’ father died when he was young. Alvaro is from Spain, and his mother still lives there. His mother was this weekend’s games. It was her first time seeing him play in college in two years.
“Her coming back after two years, seeing where I am right now and how much I worked to be where I am right now, for her, is a great feeling. Because she sent a kid to America without knowing any English, with nothing but dreams and hunger. This one is for her and my dad. He’s watching up there,” said Folgueiras.
Tavion Banks led the way with 20 points. Folgueiras had 14 points, and Bennett Stirtz scored 13.
Iowa will play Nebraska in Houston on Thursday at 6:30pm in the Sweet 16.
