Harriet Vernell Fritter, 10/09/1940 – 03/17/2026, was born in Charlottesville, VA. She married the love of her life, William Charles Fritter, Sr. when they were just 17 years. Bill joined the United States Marine Corps and he and Harriet started their wonderful journey together which lasted 68 years. The military life is known for travel, and travel they did, adding 7 babies to the family along the way. She is predeceased by her son, Rick, and her husband, Bill, Sr. She is survived by her children Bill, Jr. (Sherry), Steve (Eyvonne), Christine (Don), Debra, Ronald, Sr., and Theresa (Scott, Sr.) whom all resides in Onslow County. Grandmom and GG, as she was known to her 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, loved introducing them to the magical cabinet, where all her precious Tupperware lived. There, babies could pull out anything and toss it all over the floor if they wanted to. The parents would get a sharp tongue lashing followed by a “leave them alone, they are quiet!”, if any parent dared to correct them. Traveling, especially cruising, reading a good mystery novel, wearing anything Purple, playing games like Bunko, Spoons and Pictionary were some of the many things she loved to do, but the thing she loved doing the most was organizing events for her family. With 7 children who have families of their own, planning events to gather everyone was difficult at times, but she always managed to make it happen and sometimes invited us to help, but we knew who was really in charge of it all. Family was everything to her and she will be loved and missed forever and will always be remembered.
Mrs. Fritter’s funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
