RIVERVIEW, Fla. (CBS12) — A Florida high school principal was arrested after deputies say he waited two weeks to report a 4-year-old’s sexual abuse at a daycare run by his school.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), on May 9, the Special Victims Section began an investigation into the case of a 4-year-old who was inappropriately touched by a 16-year-old while at a daycare operated by Spoto High School in Riverview, Florida.

Investigators say the allegations were reported to the principal, 42-year-old Jazrick Haggins, in April; however, he failed to report the incident to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) or the authorities for two weeks.

Haggins told investigators that he knew of the allegations but was conducting his own investigation into the incident.

A warrant was issued for Haggins’ arrest, and he was taken into custody on Friday by the Lakeland Police Department and transported to Polk County Jail for a count of failure to report child abuse.
