WESTCHASE — Surf Shack Coastal Kitchen, a popular local hangout at 12217 W. Linebaugh Ave. since 2011, will close March 22 and begin a two-month transformation into an Eddie’s Bar and Grill.
Eddie’s, a family-friendly sports bar known for its fresh, never-frozen menu, has operated in Dunedin since 1985 and has since expanded to Bay Pines and Largo. The Westchase location will be its fourth.
Surf Shack owner Stephen Bishop, who runs the Excellence in Restaurants hospitality group, announced the change on social media.
“From the bottom of our hearts we say thank you for supporting us for the past 12 years,” the restaurant posted on Facebook. “It has been an honor but as life happens on to bigger and better things.”
All Surf Shack staff will be relocated to other Eddie’s Group properties during construction and will return once the remodel is complete, according to the post.
The original Eddie’s was opened by Eddie Turner as a small bar across from the Gulf of Mexico in Dunedin. A new ownership group took over in 2016, remodeled the restaurant and began expanding. The Largo location opened in late 2025.
Eddie’s menu features nightly specials including Taco Tuesdays, Burger Wednesdays and Fish and Chips Fridays, along with happy hour from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Surf Shack also houses Level 19 Gaming Lounge, an arcade built by Bishop with its own full bar, video games, pinball, darts and a golf simulator. It was unclear at time of publication whether the arcade would continue to operate after the conversion.
