Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new Notice of Commencement for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad signage installation at Magic Kingdom.
Design Communications Ltd. is a frequent Walt Disney Imagineering vendor for signage work. The company handles sign fabrication and installation for multiple recent Walt Disney World theme park projects.
The permit filing suggests Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will feature refreshed or new signage when it reopens in early May 2026.
Disney describes the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad project as a “mountain-top to cavern-deep refurbishment” that includes all-new trains, refreshed animatronics, and restored effects throughout the attraction.
The signage work is the latest detail to emerge about the scope of updates being made to the Frontierland attraction.
A new Rainbow Caverns scene will feature phosphorescent pools and iridescent stalactites and stalagmites. Wyatt Winter, Executive Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering, confirmed guests will see gold on the mountain for the first time in the attraction’s Magic Kingdom history.
Disney has confirmed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen in early May 2026. No specific date has been announced yet.
“The attraction will reopen with new magic and the shine and polish of an all-over refurbishment in early May,” Disney said.
