A 12-year-old student died in a crash with an SUV while crossing Longleaf Pine Parkway on a mini dirt bike. Officials say the SUV driver will face no charges.
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit has concluded its investigation into a fatal crash involving an SUV and a gas-powered mini dirt bike that killed a 12-year-old on Longleaf Pine Parkway on Feb. 17.
Authorities said the crash involved a 2019 Infiniti QX50 traveling eastbound near Patriot Oaks Academy and a juvenile operating a small gas-powered motorcycle traveling south in a crosswalk area.
The victim, a 12-year-old Patriot Oaks Academy student, was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.
School was not in session at the time, and the school zone was inactive, officials said.
According to investigators, the motorcycle entered the roadway shortly before the collision, leaving the driver with “little opportunity to avoid the crash.”Â
Authorities determined the driver was not speeding, impaired or driving recklessly.
No criminal charges will be filed, and the investigation has been closed.
