“Getting to share something that I have a passion about — I enjoy inspiring students,” he said. “I enjoy watching them learn something that is difficult.”
Monceaux teaches eighth through 12th graders everything they need to know about sailing as they work toward earning their boating license.
“We are rotating through all the positions on the boat so that each student gets a chance to experience what that position is responsible for,” Monceaux said. “I love that the students have a chance to experience all of these things that are here for us on the coast and in the water.”
“Captain Tony is an amazing teacher. He is very patient,” said SailFuture Academy student Audrey Myers.
“I like the fact that he takes us places, even if I get drenched,” said Lucy Ashe, another student.
Laura Manke, the assistant head of the school, nominated Monceaux as an A+ Teacher. Manke herself was featured as an A+ Teacher in 2024.
“I know how much that meant to me,” she said. “And I think that it’s something really special and so for him to be able to be honored, that was a wonderful feeling.”
