Window installers shot in Winter Park neighborhood during confrontation over stolen tools, employee says
WESH TWO NEWS ON C W 18 STARTS NOW, AND WE BEGIN TONIGHT IN WINTER PARK, WHERE TWO WINDOW INSULATION WORKERS WERE SHOT. POLICE SAY THE SHOOTERS WERE TRYING TO STEAL TOOLS FROM THE JOB SITE. THEY WERE AT. WESH TWO PATTRIK PEREZ IS LIVE ON OVERLOOK ROAD TONIGHT NEAR WHERE THAT SHOOTING HAPPENED. PATRICK. AND JESSE, THOSE WORKERS WERE ACTUALLY ON THE SECOND FLOOR OF THIS HOUSE WHEN THEY NOTICED A CAR DRIVING BY SUSPICIOUSLY. BY THE TIME THEY CAME DOWNSTAIRS, THEY SAW THOSE ALLEGED SHOOTERS TRYING TO STEAL THEIR TOOLS, AND THAT’S WHEN SHOTS WERE FIRED. TONIGHT, WE DID SEE SOMEONE DROP OFF CANDLES FOR THOSE VICTIMS. ALL THESE GUYS GOT FAMILY. ALL THEY DO IS WORK, AND IT’S NOT FAIR. IT’S A DAY ON THE JOB. JAVIER RYAN COE WILL NEVER FORGET THERE. I THINK IT WAS A PRANK. RYAN COE SAYS TWO OF HIS WORKERS WERE SHOT TUESDAY AFTERNOON NEAR THIS HOUSE THAT’S UNDER CONSTRUCTION ON OVERLOOK ROAD IN WINTER PARK. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE WORKING IN THE SECOND FLOOR, AND THEY SEE A CAR COMING, AND IT LOOKS SUSPICIOUS. TWO OF THEM WALK DOWNSTAIRS, WALKED TO THE CAR TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. THAT’S WHEN RYAN COE SAYS HIS WORKERS CAUGHT THE ALLEGED SHOOTER STEALING THEIR TOOLS. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? THEY COULD HAVE NEVER PREDICTED. THEY JUST STARTED YELLING AND JUST THROWING, TRYING TO THROW A TOOL OR SOMETHING AT THEM. AND THAT’S WHEN THE GUYS JUST SHOT. ONE OF MY GUYS GOT SHOT THREE TIMES AND THEY GOT, GOT, GOT SHOT ONE TIME. FIRE RESCUE TOOK BOTH MEN TO THE HOSPITAL AT LAST CHECK, RYAN COE SAYS THEY HAD TO UNDERGO SURGERY. ALL THEY WANTED. THE GUY THAT GOT THREE SHOT GOT SHOT THREE TIMES. THAT’S THE ONE THAT WORRIED ME THE MOST. HE’S. HE’S NOT BLEEDING, SO I’M HOPING HE’S GONNA BE OKAY. POLICE ENDED UP FINDING THE SUSPECT VEHICLE AND CHASED IT TO LAKE MARY. WINTER PARK POLICE SAY THE PURSUIT CAME TO AN END HERE NEAR THE ENTRANCE TO THE LAKE MARY VILLAGE SHOPPING PLAZA. SKID MARKS AND DEBRIS SHOW THE AFTERMATH. WHEN WE CAME HERE, THERE WAS CARS BLOCKING EVERYWHERE AND ME AND MY DAD WERE LIKE, WHAT’S GOING ON? WHY IS THERE CARS? BRIAN HENDERSON WAS NEARBY WHEN HE SAW POLICE TAKE TWO PEOPLE INTO CUSTODY. IT SEEMS LIKE THERE WAS LIKE, GARDENER EQUIPMENT HANGING OUT OF THE WINDOW WHILE THE SUSPECTS HAVE BEEN CAUGHT. RYAN COE JUST HOPES HIS GUYS MAKE IT OUT OKAY. Two people are in custody after a shooting that happened just before 4 p.m. in a Winter Park neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon.The neighborhood is on Overlook Road south of State Road 426. Javier Riano, who works for a window installation company, told WESH 2 his crew was working when a car pulled up and suspects began to steal their tools. He said two of his coworkers were shot after confronting the robbers. Riano said one of his employees was shot at once, and another one was shot at three times. “The one guy that got shot three times, that’s the one that worries me,” Riano said. “He’s bleeding, so I hope he is going to be OK. Think about all the harm you are doing. All these guys got families. All they do is just work, and it’s just not fair.”Winter Park police said two of them are at the hospital, but the extent of their injuries is still being determined. Police also said two suspects are in custody at this time. “A suspect vehicle was located, and a vehicle pursuit ensued, ending in the Lake Mary area,” WPPD said. Police said the investigation remains active and more information will be provided when it is complete.
