If you’ve ever walked into a fabric store “just to look” and somehow left with an armful of materials and a new project idea, you’ll feel right at home at Sew Pinellas (5601 Haines Road). This sewing studio and shop has quickly become a staple in St. Pete’s creative community, and it’s a go-to spot for anyone curious about sewing—or already committed to it. Whether you’re here to learn, browse, or finally finish that half-started project, Sew Pinellas makes it easy to dive in.

Serious about sewing, relaxed about learning
One of the things Sew Pinellas does best is classes. Their schedule is packed with hands-on workshops and multi-week courses that welcome true beginners while keeping things interesting for those with more experience. Classes tend to fill up quickly, thanks to a supportive, low-pressure teaching style that focuses on building confidence along with skills.
You’ll find everything from introductory sewing classes to more specific offerings (we like Quilting Basics!), plus seasonal camps for kids and teens that blend creativity, structure, and plenty of time at the machine. It’s a space where questions are welcomed, mistakes are expected, and progress happens one project at a time.
Shop first, sew later (or try both at once!)
Even if you don’t come in for a class, Sew Pinellas is well worth the visit. The shop is stocked with bolts of fabric, sewing supplies, tools, books, and all the little extras that make sewing easier and more fun.
Better yet, shopping and sewing often go hand in hand here. It’s easy to grab supplies and immediately picture how they’ll turn into something wearable, useful, or gift-worthy. If you need any guidance, the staff are always happy to help point you in the right direction.

Build skills. Gain confidence. Give back.
For those ready to take the next step, Sew Pinellas also offers a Volunteer Training & Sewing Bootcamp this April and May. The program prepares teens and adults to assist with upcoming summer sewing camps through skill-building, classroom support, and mentorship training.
It’s a great way for teens to get involved in the creative community and earn the service hours they need for school, and it’s also perfect for parents who want to plan a fun summer activity with their kids. After completing two weeks of volunteering during summer sewing camps, the training tuition is 100% refundable! You can find more details and sign up online, plus take a look at the upcoming summer camp schedule.
Come for the fabric, stay for the skills
Whether you’re signing up for a class, browsing the shop, or just soaking up the creative energy, Sew Pinellas feels like a place where sewing is meant to be shared. The space is open Monday through Saturday (closed Sunday), and hours vary daily, so be sure to check before visiting.
Looking ahead, Sunday hours will be added starting in late April, with extended shopping hours rolling out in May.
