A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested on several felony charges stemming from a domestic violence incident in St. Petersburg, the agency said in a news release.

Brian Juliano, 45, was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of armed kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with a witness.

“Detectives say Juliano was in a verbal and physical altercation with a woman, during which he threatened her with a firearm, preventing her from leaving the residence or calling 911 for help,” the news release states.

The St. Petersburg Police Department investigated the case and arrested Juliano. He was hired by the sheriff’s office in April 2020 and has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

“This arrest is deeply concerning and does not reflect the standards we expect of our deputies,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in the news release. “Any actions that violate the law or the trust of our community will be met with swift and decisive accountability. We will continue to cooperate fully with the investigating agency.”
