Florida State set to host annual FSU Relays

  • March 25, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – For the first time since 2011, the Florida State women’s track and field team has an indoor national title, and for the first time since 2000, that championship is in the 60M.

Shenese Walker won the title to kick start her spring break last week, winning in 7.08 seconds. Her prelim time? 7.07, a new conference and school record.

“I’ve been there twice. Did not win, and finally, third time’s the charm, I finally got it right. I was like yes, finally!” she laughed. “My dream all coming to life. I was just looking at the screen to like process like, oh, you really did that! It was an amazing feeling, like finally, yes!”

The title marks a great end to the indoor season for the Seminoles as they look ahead to outdoor, which begins Thursday with the Terry Long FSU Relays.

The Relays are a two day college event, with close to a dozen teams in attendance. The high school portion begins Friday and continues through Saturday, and nearly 2600 athletes from nine states will compete in the high school meet.

It’s an exciting event, and one the Seminoles are excited about to open up their season.

“It’s a mainstay on our schedule. We always open up a couple weeks after NCAA’s,” said head coach Matt Kane. “We like to have a nice, viewer friendly meet. Outdoors is real track in my opinion, it’s what everybody knows. I’m always excited to get the outdoor season kicked off. There’s a lot of areas where this is their very first meet so that’s what we’re excited about, getting a chance to seeing them compete. They’ve been working out for 6-7 months. I think it should be really good from that end and getting back to competing.”

Highlights of Thursday’s opening day are Seminole thrower Jake Atwood, who went to Chiles. Discus competition begins at 2:00. At 6:10, Leon grad Curtis Williams will compete in the long jump, while Florida High product Micahi Danzy will run in the 4×1 relay at 6:15.
