Phone lines to the Public Safety Complex in Jacksonville, including police and fire stations, are down after a transformer explosion on George Douthit Drive SW. The Jacksonville Police Department reported while their backup system allows them to receive calls, the call management system is currently down. “You may receive a busy signal if the line is engaged when you call,” they said. However, emergency assistance can still be accessed by dialing 911, as police and fire aid can be routed.

The department said they are in the early stages of repair and do not yet have an estimate for when the lines will be restored. They emphasized, “If you need help, dial 911.”

Heading west, Bibb County’s non-emergency phone lines are also down. The Bibb County E-911 center assured residents that they are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. “We apologize for the inconvenience,” they said. For non-emergency calls, residents are advised to dial 205-579-1443, which will connect directly to the center. The 911 emergency lines remain operational.
