  • March 26, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida Board of Governors voted Thursday to approve a three-year extension for Florida State University President Richard McCullough.

Board members praised McCullough’s leadership over his five years in office. From moving the university up the national rankings to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH) deal.

They also mentioned his presence in the wake of last year’s fatal shooting on FSU’s campus.

The FSU President got a standing ovation from the room as he broke down in tears, thanking everyone who supported him.

“Chairman Collins is an awesome, awesome partner, and my wife, Jai, [is] awesome,” McCullough said.

McCullough’s contract now runs through August 2029. Terms like salary and benefits will be worked out later.
