Hinsdale County Search and Rescue said the pair became stuck while driving on Engineer Pass.
LAKE CITY, Colo. — A father and son from the East Coast are safe and sound after getting stuck on a snowy mountain pass in southwest Colorado.
Hinsdale County Search and Rescue said in a Facebook post that at 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, crews were called to assist San Juan and Ouray counties in rescuing stranded motorists west of the summit of Engineer Pass.Â
By 9:45 p.m., the post said, crews made contact with a father and son who were visiting from Florida. Their Jeep had become stuck in about two feet of snow at around 4 p.m. as weather conditions worsened.Â
“We’re grateful for the quick coordination between county teams and for a safe outcome for all involved,” the post read.Â
Located 12,800 feet above sea level between Ouray and Lake City, Engineer Pass is part of the Alpine Loop and is known for being one of Colorado’s best four-wheel-drive areas, according to Uncover Colorado. It is known to be extremely dangerous in winter.
