To the editor:
Lee County commissioners need more money.
How about addressing what I believe to be root causes of this problem.
Where is information that the commissioners greatly reduced impact fees in 2008 to appease developers?Â
Where is information to the fact that the commissioners have failed to raise the impact fees since?
Where is the information that the commissioners developed a Growth Fund that was supposed to replace impact fees and that they have not funded the same for at last two years?Â
And that the Growth Fund was/is funded by current taxpayers as opposed to impact fees which were included in the purchase of every new home.
I appreciate the fact that the incompetence of our commissioners is being hinted at.Â
How much of the rapid uncontrolled development is due to the fact that more than 70% of political donations to the commissioners come from developers and real estate?
Continued growth will be a way of life here but doing it in a sensible, environmentally manner seems to be beyond the grasp of our present quintet of county commissioners.
