This is “Small Bites,” a South Florida Sun Sentinel feature with tiny tidbits on the food and beverage scene — because we know that sometimes you just don’t have room for a long article. You want a little news brief instead, an amuse bouche of information, if you will. Enjoy!

WHAT: Broward County’s oldest and most historic home — ironically situated alongside the NEW(!) River — will once again stage its largest annual fundraiser with the Pineapple Jam.

The Historic Stranahan House Museum, just off of bizzy-buzzy Las Olas Boulevard, will be the backdrop for the pineapple-themed party, with open bars, live music and food provided by Hugh’s Catering.

“From the tropical welcome drink to the dessert spread, and woven throughout the venue’s decor, the pineapple shows up at every turn as a symbol of the event’s focus on hospitality and welcome,” museum executive director Jennifer Belt said.

“When Pineapple Jam was created over 12 years ago, the pineapple was chosen as the event’s symbol for a reason rooted in tradition,” she added. “The pineapple is a recognized symbol of hospitality and welcome, a nod to the warm, open-door spirit that has always defined the Historic Stranahan House Museum … Baptist Health, a major early sponsor, embraced the pineapple as its logo, making the pineapple the official symbol of the event.”

To fit with that vibe, guests are asked to dress in tropical chic. Proceeds support the year-round historic preservation and education programs at the museum.

EXTRA TIDBIT: Built in 1901, Stranahan House is for many the symbolic birthplace of Fort Lauderdale as the home of SoFlo’s power couple: The region’s first businessman, Frank Stranahan, and the first schoolteacher, Ivy Cromartie Stranahan. The property opened as a museum in 1984. Every year, more than 10,000 tourists and locals visit, according to their website.
