Driving around parts of Miami on Friday might make you wish you called in sick.
President Donald Trump is headed to Miami Beach. There’s the Ultra Music Festival in downtown Miami. The Marlins’ Opening Day at loanDepot park in Little Havana. The first of two concerts by Latin rockers Maná at downtown’s Kaseya Center. Performances at the Arsht Center on Biscayne Boulevard next to Ultra and the Heat’s arena.
And then there’s the FII Priority Miami Summit at the Faena Hotel. That’s the Saudi-backed global summit, Capital in Motion, for which the president will be delivering the closing address late Friday afternoon to a delegation from Saudi Arabia. Featured speakers include Trump’s Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, his son Donald Trump Jr. and former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
The Faena is at 3201 Collins Ave. in Miami Beach. Trump’s speech is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and that, and everything else in the Miami area, runs smack into rush hour traffic.
Miami Beach traffic pattern
Here’s what Miami Beach police have alerted:
“Due to a VIP visit on Friday, March 27, motorists may experience traffic impacts in the Mid Beach district beginning as early as 9 a.m., with intermittent and extended road closures expected between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.”
Police encourage drivers to plan ahead and consider alternate routes, including the MacArthur Causeway or the 79 Street Causeway. This suggests Trump’s motorcade probably would approach Miami Beach along the Julia Tuttle Causeway, coming from State Road 112 and the Miami airport, but the White House doesn’t specify exact routes of the president’s motorcade.
Miami Beach police have posted “No Parking Anytime” signs on streets between 30th and 42nd streets, where parking will be restricted until 7 p.m. Friday. You may have seen these signs as early as Thursday night.
The following parking lots will be closed all day Friday, March 27:
P56 Parking Lot at 3401 Collins Ave.P57 Parking Lot at 3501 Collins Ave.After the summit
Trump is expected to return to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach for the weekend after his speech at the summit. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a “VIP Movement Notification” about flight restrictions over Palm Beach County airspace Friday to Sunday.
Trump’s departure from Miami Friday evening will come around the same time as the Ultra concerts heat up and the Marlins game crowd heads to the stadium.
