FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – Franklin County’s Sheriff AJ Smith is sending a warning to spring breakers, as they recently arrested a group of college students at a rental home.
The students are accused of underage drinking, drug use and trashing the beach rental bought by their parents.
Smith said that kind of behavior is not common in Franklin County but he’s using this as a cautionary tale as tourist season picks up.

The sheriff also said deputies will be cracking down on illegal parking with a device called the Barnacle that locks onto your windshield until violators pay a $400 fine.
“We’re going to have a lot of day trippers. I want folks to understand that we’re going to be strictly enforcing the traffic laws. If you’re stopped, you’re more than likely to get a ticket because I’ve instructed deputies to write tickets. We want people to slow down. We want them to adhere to the laws and be safe because one traffic fatality or serious injury is too many,” Smith said.
The sheriff said deputies will be strictly enforcing traffic laws on Highway 98 and have zero tolerance for impaired drivers.
