Fort Myers is a perfect 4-0 against Cape Coral since March of 2016 and they’ll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Green Wave will welcome the Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. Fort Myers is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they’ve averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Fort Myers needed a bit of extra time to put away Dwyer. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Panthers 6-5.
Fort Myers got a big performance out of Gianni Torres, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Faith Fazzone was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.
They weren’t the only ones making solid contact: Fort Myers kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Cape Coral didn’t have quite enough to beat Lemon Bay on Thursday and fell 4-3. The loss continues a trend for the Seahawks in their meetings with the Manta Rays: they’ve now lost three in a row.
Emma Brannan put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn’t tossed less than eight strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter’s box, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
Brannan wasn’t the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Buice, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Fort Myers is on a roll lately: they’ve won six of their last seven contests. That’s provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Cape Coral, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Both Fort Myers and Cape Coral just can’t seem to miss. The Green Wave have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it’s not like Cape Coral struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
