The Sarasota Sailors will head out to take on the St. Petersburg Green Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Sarasota is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they’ve averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Palmetto hit Sarasota with a five-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Sailors fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 8-7. The Sailors’ loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Breadon Mackay and Mason Moeller stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mackay went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Moeller went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Kole Ayrault was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, St. Petersburg won against Pinellas Park on Wednesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Green Devils beat IMG Academy Blue by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Green Devils, who have now won six matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Thomas Fisher Grizzard made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn’t given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Hobbs, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. That’s the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Leo Smith, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

St. Petersburg has been performing incredibly well recently as they’ve won seven of their last eight games. That’s provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Sarasota, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-4.

Both Sarasota and St. Petersburg just can’t seem to miss. The Sailors have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it’s not like St. Petersburg struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Sarasota skirted past St. Petersburg 5-4 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sailors since the team won’t have the home-field advantage this time around. We’ll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
