The Washington Huskies have made a major push to secure some of the nation’s top talent in the 2027 class, and after earning a commitment from four-star defensive tackle Jon Ioane on Thursday, Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

As the Huskies‘ class sits at No. 5 in the nation, according to 247Sports, one of the top outstanding targets on Fisch’s board is four-star wide receiver Osani Gayles, who UW has gained a ton of momentum with in recent weeks after he took an unofficial visit to Seattle in early March for Junior Day.

After Ioane’s commitment, 247Sports’ Tom Loy reported that the Huskies are in the top group for the 5-foot-11, 185-pound pass catcher, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 35 overall prospect and No. 7 wide receiver in the 2027 class. That would put them alongside Alabama, Tennessee, and USC, all programs with which Gayles has set official visits for the summer months.

“This is going to be a kid that’s in the five-star conversation,” 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins said. “I know Jedd Fisch, (senior director of player personnel) Matt Doherty, they’ve been working him since they were at Arizona so long ago…Washington is kind of a sneaky wide receiver U, and I think Osani Gayles would fit in nicely there if they’re able to get him in the boat.”

Since the move up to Seattle, Fisch’s staff has been able to gain more of a foothold in his recruitment thanks to some local ties, as Gayles, who began his career at St. Mary’s High School in California, has some family members living in the Seattle area. With a pair of four-star receivers already committed in Braylon Pope and Zerek Sidney, Gayles would be a very talented addition who could move all over the formation in Fisch’s scheme.

“Gifted inside receiver with the intelligence, confidence, and polish to elevate any passing attack,” Ivins wrote in his scouting report. “Manipulates defenders with impressive route tempo as he mixes speeds and snaps out of breaks at crisp angles. Can bypass coverage with advanced releases and easy acceleration…Combative more times than not in 50-50 situations with his play strength…Slippery after the catch as he stacks cuts to avoid would-be tacklers.”

Washington has yet to set an official visit with Gayles, but if wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings is able to get him on campus again, UW’s final weekend of visits on June 19 seems to be the most logical date that he would arrive given the rest of his schedule, with Alabama set for May 29, USC for June 5, and Tennessee for June 12.
