A house fire early March 29 in Port St. Lucie resulted in a woman being hospitalized and the death of a dog, according to police and fire officials.
St. Lucie County Fire District crews and Port St. Lucie police officers went to the residential structure fire in the 3400 block of Southwest Ronald Street about 1:50 a.m., said police Officer Brittany McNally.
Firefighters were told the 911 caller reported seeing smoke and possibly hearing someone calling for help from inside the home, according to officials. When they arrived, firefighters saw smoke coming from the roofline and found all doors were locked.
After the information from dispatch was confirmed by police officers that someone was heard inside, according to officials, firefighters immediately started a targeted search through a window in the area where the trapped person was believed to be.
Meanwhile, according to officials, other crews forced entry into the home, beginning a primary search of the residence and initiating an interior attack on the fire.

The fire was under control by about 2:20 a.m., according to officials. It appeared to have been an electrical fire that started in the garage, McNally said.
Firefighters told officers there were no signs of foul play, she said. The American Red Cross was notified.
