TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee Police and Fire departments faced off Saturday in their second annual Battle of the Badges, a friendly flag football game at Gene Cox Stadium.
Fire Chief Gene Sanders said the event highlights the teamwork both departments share on and off the field.
“They work together collaboratively, as we’re serving the community, but we get a chance to come out and compete against each other on the field,” Sanders said.

Police Chief Lawrence Revell echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the importance of community connection.
“We’re here every day to serve the community, and so we do that very well together,” Revell said. “It’s the opportunity to come out here and do that and have little competition, but bring the community in and let them see that fun and enjoy that, get some food, and just have a great time.”
The community event featured local vendors, food trucks, music, and activities, along with a halftime performance by the Omega Lamplighters.
The departments plan to continue the annual matchup as a way to strengthen camaraderie and engage with the residents in the community they serve.
