Two people were injured in a collision in which one of the vehicles flipped, according to authorities.
Emergency crews were sent to the 2200 block of East Morton Avenue about 7:01 a.m. Monday after an eastbound vehicle on East Morton Avenue turned north into the Jacksonville Correctional Center entrance and collided with a westbound vehicle, according to police.
The impact of the crash caused a vehicle being driven by Kellen M. Steindl, 36, of Springfield to hit the median at the prison’s entrance and flip, according to a Jacksonville Police Department report.
The driver of the other vehicle, Sharon L. Mather, 66, of Jacksonville, was cited on a charge of improper left turn into oncoming traffic, according to a police report.
Both drivers were taken to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, one by ambulance and the other by a family member, according to police. Their conditions were unavailable Tuesday.
Both vehicles had to be towed because of the extent of damage, according to police.
