The owner of The Peachy Nest said the gifts and homewares store will be open this week, despite a weekend break-in leaving them shaken.
The door of the white-and-pastel-pink building at 228 S. Mauvaisterre St. was found open just before 10 a.m. Monday and its air conditioner was sitting on the steps, according to a Jacksonville Police Department report.
Someone forced their way into the store Sunday or early Monday, police said. An undetermined amount of money was taken.
The store usually is closed Sunday through Tuesday. Owner Jess Lynn commented on social media about getting a call to tell her what happened.
“As a business owner, you never want to hear the words ‘someone broke into your building.’ Well, that happened. I feel a little sick to my stomach,” she shared. “They managed to take just the money and leave everything else alone.”
Well-wishers flooded the comments section on the store’s Facebook page, with many saying they planned to visit the shop to help it recoup its losses.
The Peachy Nest is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. It offers delivery, pick-up and shipping.
