Two of last year’s biggest newsmakers in the Bay food scene come together this month when a Filipino-flavored seafood boil lands in West Tampa.
Lucky Tigre chef and founder Chef Julie Sainte Michelle Feliciano and chef Philip Cleary from St. Pete fish shack Cheeky’s just announced a Kamayan-style collaboration between the two restaurants set for April 13.
A Kamayan dinner, for folks whose Filipino friends don’t like them enough to invite them to one, is when a family comes together around the table to eat without utensils—rice, meats, seafood, fruits, and, yes, lumpia, all spread tastefully across banana leaves.
A press release says the dinner—happening inside and on the patio of Lucky Tigre at 1901 N Howard Ave. in Tampa—will feature sharable options served on bilao platters.
Tickets to seatings at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. include a coconut garlic shrimp boil with longanisa sausage, fried jasmine rice, pickled papaya & red potatoes, plus roasted oysters with Filipino adobo and Cheeky’s famous cornbread hush puppies with guava jelly.
Six à la carte offerings are also available:
Mochi fried grouper cheeks
Beef & carrot lumpia with sweet chili carrot vinegar (6 pc)
Cucumber tomato salad
Garlic jasmine fried rice
French fries with Mama Sita’s sinigang sa sampalok & scallions
Ube coconut meringue pie
DJ AJ Hall, who runs a popular residency at Ybor City’s Hotel Haya plays the tunes.
