FORT MYERS, Fla. — Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball dropped a 3–1 decision to Jacksonville University Sunday afternoon in Alico Arena. It was the Eagles’ second defeat in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and they now find themselves in a three-way tie with EKU and UCA for second place, boasting a 7-3 conference record. Jacksonville leads the league at 9-1.

Julija Grubisic Cabo registered her 11th double-double of the season with 17 kills and 10 digs. Camila Soto added 10 kills and four blocks, while Barbara Koehler had nine kills, eight digs and five blocks. Setter Eliska Vytiskova ran the offense with 23 assists and 10 digs.

Jacksonville steadily pulled ahead in set one, building a 19-14 lead before eventually taking it 25-18. Set two was similar for the Dolphins gaining a 22-18 lead but the Green & Blue made an adjustment and scored three straight points to cut the deficit to one, 22-21. Jacksonville responded and closed out the set 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead.

In set three the Eagles built a 19-15 advantage, thanks in part to a whopping seven kills from Grubisic Cabo and never looked back, winning the set 25-17.

In the final set Jacksonville was up 16-12 before FGCU responded with a 12-4 run to overtake the lead 24-20. Despite the Eagles reaching set point, they could not finish, as Jacksonville scored six straight points to win the set 26-24 and seal the match.

The Eagles will hit the road to face Queens University of Charlotte Royals (14-8, 5-4 ASUN) on Friday at 6 p.m. in Charlotte, North Carolina.
