An 18-year-old Broward County woman was killed the night of Oct. 25 in a vehicle crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Lake County.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, the crash happened about 9:44 p.m.
The woman, from Southwest Ranches, was driving a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E south on the turnpike a few miles north of the Leesburg North (U.S. 27) interchange.
A tow truck, driven by a 53-year-old Ocala man, was heading southbound as well. The vehicle was partially on the shoulder and partially in the outside lane, according to FHP.
The tow truck merged fully into the outside lane, in the Mustang’s direct path. The Mustang’s front struck the rear of the tow truck, the news release says.
The Mustang driver, whose name was not provided in the release, was declared dead on scene. The truck driver, also unidentified in the release, was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
