TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Museum of Science and Innovation is celebrating the launch of Artemis II with a launch party, Wednesday.

Dr. Mackenna Wood says, “We’re in fact, going further into space that any human has ever been before.” The director of the MOSI’s planetarium will be watching historic launch from inside the dome in Tampa.

“The goal for the Artemis mission is to get there and stay there,” Wood explains, “We’re planning on building out longer habitations so we can learn about long-term living on other planets in our solar system.”

MOSI’s watch party begins at 5:30 p.m. ahead of the 2-hour launch window which opens at 6:24. The event will include a live-stream of the launch inside the planetarium, cosmic activities and expects on-site to answer questions.

According to Wood, “The people who are kids right now are the people who might be taking that trip around Mars or landing on Mars. So, getting inspired and excited about space and all the things we can do in space during their lifetime, that’s what’s really exciting about this mission.”
