Verot boys win distrect swimming title; Viking girls second

SWIMMING

Bishop Verot’s boys finished first and the girls were second in the District 1A-9 swimming and diving meet in Naples.

The Vikings came home first in the boys 200 medley relay, with Jaxon Kurio, Jonathon Ruiz, Tobias Gomez and Chad Oake making up the quartet.

Bishop Verot (Oake, Matthew Latell, Gavin Mann and Kurio) was second in the boys’ 200 freestyle relay.

Kurio added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke.

Oasis’s Zachary Poskon won the 200 individual medley. Teammate Jensen Dinkel was second.

The Sharks (Poskon, Dinkel, Lior Chkoury and Jacob Ricke) finished second in the 200 medley relay.

Poskon was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke for Oasis.

On the girls side, Bishop Verot’s 200 freestyle relay team of Maxine Delfin, Maddy Palmer, Ryane Johnson and Patricia Nemes were the district champions. Delfin also won the 100 backstroke, while Nemes took first in the 100 breastroke.

Delfin was second in the 200 medley relay, Nemes was second in the 500 freestyle and Johnson finished second in the 100 freestyle. The 200 medley relay team of Delfin, Nemes, Alexis Bulawan and Olivia Antoon was the district runner-up.

Skye Persechino of Oasis won both the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Riverdale 28, North Fort Myers 7: The Raiders (7-1, 3-0) wrapped up the District 5A-11 title. North (4-5, 2-1) scored on a Charles Lombardo 13-yard touchdown catch from Caedon Conn in the third quarter.

Cardinal Mooney at Bishop Verot, no game: A power transformer blew in the early minutes of Friday’s game at Bishop Verot. With the playoffs in two weeks, the game is unlikely to be rescheduled.
