Cape Coral is set to establish a new Cape Coral Building Industry Committee as a partner with the Lee Building Industry Association trade group.
On April 1, Cape Coral City Council by a 6-2 vote approved a memorandum of agreement between the city and the Lee Building Industry Association to begin the partnership. The three-year agreement is to be reviewed annually with the Lee Association appointing members to the Cape Committee at a future date.
The agreement serves to establish a “collaborative and supportive working relationship” between the city and the Lee County association. The organizations plan to hold recurring meetings and share information on best management practices, building permit services, revenues, operating expenses, and other services delivered to the building industry.
Councilors Keith Long and Laurie Lehmann cast dissenting votes. Long argued that the formal agreement between the city and county trade association could complicate their existing relationship rather than support a more mutually beneficial one.
