As a barrier island community with limited freshwater resources, the city of Sanibel reported that it recognizes the critical importance of water to the health and well-being of its residents.

It continually seeks ways to responsibly manage both residential and municipal water use, and it partners with the Island Water Association (IWA) to promote water conservation education.

“As a sanctuary barrier island, we strive to inspire our community to protect and preserve our natural resources,” the city shared. “Participation in the National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation provides an excellent opportunity to encourage efficient water use and reduce pollution throughout our community.”
