FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) – Volunteers joined forces to hand out brand-new pairs of shoes to elementary students at a South Florida school.
Teams with the non-profit Soles 4 Souls and Rick Case Automotive Group surprised students at Thurgood Marshall Elementary in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday morning.
All 300 students received a brand new pair of shoes.
“It’s very exciting, and I’m very grateful because some people don’t have shoes, so this is a very exciting moment,” said student Ayden Lidonde.
Organizers said most of the children come from families who struggle to afford expensive new sneakers.
“It’s such a simple love and joy in the hugs that we get, but underlying, I know the foundation is they’re gonna do better in school, they’re gonna want to go to school, and that means they’re gonna get to the next grade on time,” said Rita Case, President & CEO of Rick Case Automotive Group.
The students got to select a pair that matched their personality and style from brands like Nike and Reebok.
