Tampa’s Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Festival

Thousands gathered in downtown Tampa last Saturday, March 28, for the vibrant Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Festival held at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. Under sunny skies, the event drew crowds eager to experience a rich showcase of cultures, cuisine, and performances.

Mayor’s Asian American Pacific Islander Council organized the event. MAAPI Council member Nerissa Lamison says, “The festival aims to showcase the beauty and diversity of Asian American and Pacific Islander cultures within the local community.”

The festival featured a wide range of Asian and Pacific Islander cultural performances that brought energy and color to the event. As a food lover, I enjoyed sampling a variety of Asian and Pacific Island street foods, each offering unique flavors and traditions. There were also many booths showcasing authentic crafts, décor, and clothing, which made it fun to walk around and discover different cultural items.

One of the highlights of the festival was the Asian Pacific Islander Singing Idol competition, which added excitement and entertainment for everyone attending. The event represented many countries and cultures, including Korea, the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Cambodia, as well as Pacific Islander regions like Hawaii and Samoa.

Attendees from all across Tampa say it was memorable experience and a wonderful celebration of diversity, making it Tampa’s biggest Asian American Pacific Islander cultural events of the year.
