TAMPA, Fla. — Away from home for the first time since early March, No. 55-ranked Charlotte Men’s Tennis fell victim to No. 70 South Florida’s fast start Friday, dropping a 6-1 decision to the host Bulls.

The loss moved the 49ers to 1-3 against American Conference opponents this season.

South Florida jumped out quickly, securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Andres Medus and Massimo Pizzigoni fell 6-3 in the latter to seal the opening point.

Charlotte’s struggles carried into singles, where losses mounted across the lineup.

No. 108-ranked Vasco Prata dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision at the top spot to South Florida’s No. 123 Hugo Car, nearly simultaneously with Jack DiMenna, who fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 in just his second dual match result of the spring.

The Bulls clinched the match when Pizzigoni fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 to Gughi Verdese. Medus later picked up Charlotte’s lone point with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3, but Moritz Muenster’s 6-1, 6-4 defeat extended South Florida’s margin. Ivan Dreycopp closed the day with a third-set tiebreak loss, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4, as the Bulls added to their advantage.
