TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Family members of a Tallahassee hit-and-run victim are sharing gratitude with residents and police after an arrest was announced this week.
Marvin Calhoun was hit near West Tennessee Street and Junco Court on March 5. He later died from his injuries at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
The loss has been hard on his family left behind. The victim’s daughter, Kzonic Martin, said he was very attentive.
“He would call me on the phone, even if I did not get a chance to talk to him, he would always leave this, ‘he’s like you’re always my Babygirl, my world, my baby girl,’” Martin said.
Martin and her husband talked with WCTV after TPD charged Nigeria Grant with leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
“I shed tears. I was relieved. I was happy that they caught the person that did this, but at the same time, it hurts because this was not supposed to happen,” Martin said.

Marvin Calhoun was a veteran and served in the Army, Martin said. She described her father as funny and upbeat. “He loved to cook,” she said.
Martin’s family expressed thanks to TPD and residents for the work on the case. Investigators previously shared photos of the suspect’s vehicle on social media and asked for information.
“We definitely appreciate the public’s support. Everyone, Tallahassee Police Department, TPD, the detectives, all the way down to the victim advocates, as well as the state examiner’s office. They have all been extremely helpful,” Guy Martin said.
Family members are still making funeral arrangements from out of town, but they’ve set up a GoFundMe for donations.
