People on the Treasure Coast are reporting an increased ICE presence, leading to arrests and protests.Residents in Martin County and St Lucie County have organized several protests in response to the immigration operations. According to the arrest report, the incident happened on Tuesday morning as agents were conducting an operation along the Treasure Coast.The PSLPD said 19-year-old Pasqual Velasquez Martin, the son of the man being arrested, threw a large rock at the occupied agent’s vehicle as it was driving by, shattering the rear back window. Velasquez Martin was eventually arrested and charged with one count of throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle, a second-degree felony. The street was blocked off with crime scene tape as two helicopters were seen circling the area.Neighbors told WPBF they saw officials following a vehicle before the driver got out and ran from them. One neighbor said the woman was arrested along with two other people at the scene.WPBF 25 News reached out to both the Department of Homeland Security and the Florida Highway Patrol, asking what they were responding to and if the matter involved ICE, but has yet to receive an answer.Another protest is planned for Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. on Virginia and U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce. The organizers are asking anyone who attends to remain peaceful.
