FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — The Dunbar community celebrated its 82nd annual Easter parade on Sunday, continuing a tradition that has brought together families, music and community pride for more than eight decades.
The parade featured floats, marching bands and plenty of candy for attendees. Organizers said the event remains one of the community’s biggest traditions.
“This is vitally important,” said Eddie Hardin, president of the Dunbar Festival Committee. “The people of the community look forward to this every single year.”
For many residents, the parade has been a lifelong tradition. Jaleeanna Robinson said she has attended for as long as she can remember.
“It’s something to do every Easter,” Robinson said. “It’s always been fun, like a tradition.”
The parade continues to grow and attract new faces each year. Scott Cole, attending the event, said he was impressed by the community turnout.
“I think it’s amazing just to get the community together for something good in the name of goodness, in the name of love, in the name of God,” Cole said.
Hardin said the sense of community has kept the parade going strong for more than 80 years. He said the event brings people together who haven’t seen each other in years.
“It brings our community together,” Hardin said. “People see people they haven’t seen in years. Families are all together. So, as you can see, our shirt says it’s a family affair. That’s what this is all about.”
