During the Mar. 19 luncheon meeting of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables members were introduced to Wildlife SOS by Kartick Satyanarayan, CEO and co-founder of Wildlife SOS.
Kartick was on a tour of the United States with the non-profit’s other co-founder, Geeta Seshamani.
Founded in India, the organization now has a presence in the United States based out of Salt Lake City, UT.
Kartick’s presentation began with a touching story about saving a baby elephant whose mother was killed when a train crashed into a herd of elephants. One mother elephant was killed protecting her baby who was thrown off and left alone as the herd scattered away.
The baby elephant was almost completely paralyzed but after a long rehab was saved and now is able to walk using its front legs to do the work as the back legs drag along. The love the young elephant received from the organization’s staff was apparent on the videos that show the baby once left unable to move anything but its trunk to moving along by itself.
This is just one of countless successes for this non-profit whose mission is that of protecting wildlife and conservation as well as research studies of wild bears and elephants in their native habitat.
As you might imagine, Zoo Miami’s Ron Magill is a good friend and supporter of that mission.
