LUTZ — Orlando Health is building a freestanding emergency department at State Road 54 and Henley Road, its latest move to expand its medical footprint in fast-growing Pasco County.

Construction is underway on the 10,865-square-foot facility, which will feature 10 exam rooms, an imaging suite, a lab and an ambulance bay. The site sits in front of the recently opened Livano Sunlake apartment complex.

Orlando Health purchased the property from LIV Development, the same company that built Livano Sunlake, a 234-unit luxury multifamily and mixed-use development.

The new ER comes as the hospital chain prepares to open the Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health Wiregrass Ranch Hospital on April 21. That five-story, 102-bed facility sits on 47 acres at the northeast corner of State Road 56 and Wiregrass Ranch Boulevard in Wesley Chapel and is designed to expand to 300 beds. It will feature nine operating rooms, including a hybrid OR with advanced real-time imaging capabilities, and is expected to cost more than $750 million at full buildout.

The expansion mirrors a broader push by major health care systems — including AdventHealth, HCA and BayCare — to keep pace with Pasco County’s rapid residential growth. The county has added 500,000 residents since 1970 and is projected to gain more than 200,000 more through 2045, a 40% increase.

Orlando Health, headquartered in Orlando, is a private, not-for-profit health care organization with $9.6 billion in assets under management. It serves the southeastern United States and Puerto Rico.
