The Sanibel Public Library provides a variety of programming for adults and children.

With support from the Sanibel Public Library Foundation, the library has launched a series of virtual author talks to include bestselling authors and thought leaders. The next one will take place on April 14 at 7 p.m. with Brad Taylor, New York Times bestselling author of the Pike Logan series. He will talk about his latest work, “Shadow Strike,” the 20th installment in his series.

Taylor served for more than 20 years in the U.S. Army, including eight years in 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, commonly known as Delta Force. He retired as a Special Forces lieutenant colonel.

Additionally, the library has the following programs scheduled:

R.E.A.D. to Rizzo will take place on April 8 from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Youths will practice reading and reading out loud with Rizzo, a trained Reading Education Assistance Dog (R.E.A.D.) therapy dog. Registration is required by contacting esherman@sanlib.org.

On April 8, Crafternoon: Watercolor Painting will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Open to ages 5 and up, participants will paint a watercolor masterpiece. A variety of craft supplies will be available, along with examples and guidance.

America at War: The Battle of Leyte Gulf 1944 will take place on April 10 from 11 a.m. to noon with staffer Duane E. Shaffer. In October of 1944, the United States prepared to invade the Philippines to cut Japan off from its resources in Southeast Asia. The Japanese correctly predicted this and prepared a complex operation to use the remaining strength of its navy to defend its possessions. The Japanese navy was already in extremely poor condition, but the Battle of Leyte Gulf resulted in a catastrophic defeat that finished the Japanese navy. After Leyte, the Japanese could only conduct desperate and mostly suicidal naval actions.

On April 15, Crafternoon: Slime Time will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Open to ages 5 and up, participants will make their own bouncy, stretchy slime. A variety of craft supplies will be available, along with examples and guidance.
