BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Broward County is grieving the loss of Firefighter and Paramedic Steven Lepselter, a member of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, who passed away on Sunday morning after experiencing a medical emergency while on duty.

Sheriff Gregory Tony made the announcement, expressing deep sorrow over Lepselter’s untimely passing.

“With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of longtime Broward Sheriff’s Office employee, Firefighter/Paramedic Steven Lepselter,” said Tony.

Sheriff Tony said that Lepselter had a remarkable 19-year career with the Sheriff’s Office’s Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services, which he joined in January 2007.

It was noted that throughout his distinguished service, he held positions in various specialized divisions, including the Airport, Seaport, Hazardous Materials (HazMat), Air Rescue, and the Training Division.

Sheriff Tony said that, known for his unwavering dedication and professionalism, Lepselter was not only a skilled firefighter/paramedic but also a passionate mentor. His role in the Training Division allowed him to guide and shape the next generation of emergency responders, ensuring they carried forward his commitment to service and compassion.

Lepselter’s colleagues remembered him for his unmatched passion, as he consistently provided expert care and comfort to those in their most critical moments.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lepselter family during this incredibly difficult time,” Sheriff Tony added.
